Femme Fatale- a shoot for Val & Stone

Ah how I love doing fun fashion shoots, especially for good friends. This is the second time I’ve collaborated with the ever-talented Val & Stone, and I cannot wait to do it again a third! This time, Renee, the mastermind behind V&S, wanted a sexy, Kate Moss-inspired shoot with a “bad ass” edge. Well, I’d say our friend and gorgeous model, Mirjam nailed it! Please press play and enjoy our “Tuesday Blues” shoot, and be sure to stay up to date with Val & Stone’s newest products via Instagram!

And it wouldn’t be complete without a couple behind the scenes shots. Below is the lovely Renee & her handy hubs who shot the sweet snap of us three ladies on the Hog!

Nicole & Manny’s San Francisco engagement

Oh my goodness it has taken me way too long to blog this. Forever ago, I flew up to San Francisco to photograph one of my dearest and oldest friend’s engagement session. Her & her man are ridiculously in love and to get to spend not one, but two days photographing them dancing and prancing and laughing and kissing all around SF was an absolute pleasure to say the least.

Nee, I love you dearly and am tickled pink that you have found someone just as awesome as you to spend forever with. Manny, there’s no one else on earth I’d want my girl to be with. ManNee (that’s the celebrity couple name I’ve officially given you guys) you two give love a good name! I can hardly wait to stand beside you in less than a month and bawl my eyes out as you say “I do”!

lights, camera, action

The assignment for last week’s Camera Craft 2 class was all about light. This was a little different to my usual shooting mainly because I wasn’t photographing people. I simply looked at shadows and interesting light patterns. I had fun with it and am quite happy with my shots. These are 98% unedited, straight out of the camera. Hope you enjoy:

I thought these last two look like little masked bandits up to no good. Really, it’s just the shadows of rubbish bins.

Final assignment { Orange you glad }

Ok so I haven’t done what I said I would do which was a weekly post of my Camera Craft 1 assignments. To be honest, I wasn’t really loving the last few I did and felt they weren’t up to par for sharing. It’s amazing the difference your mood and motivation level makes in your work and how you feel about it. If I’ve learned anything from this, it’s that head space place a very important role in photography.

Luckily, I was back in “let’s do this!” mode for my final assignment. We had to choose an idea or theme to photograph in different ways and bring 12 different prints into class (which will be tonight). I struggled at first to come up with an idea I could actually bring to life, shoot, and print in a week but yesterday, Renee and I got together and went where the mood and music took us. We shot in and around her apartment and used “orange” as a recurring element throughout the shoot. I am so pleased with our results which just goes to show, head space makes such a huge difference in my photography.

Thanks so much, Renee you beautiful gem!

back to school {week one}

For a while now, I have had the urge to further my photography education.  The past two years have been spent living in limbo between LA and Sydney which has taken a toll on me and my photography. Not really ideal for booking in clients when you don’t know which hemisphere you’ll be in on their event date. About 2 months ago, I finally made a commitment to living in Sydney with my man for the foreseeable future and am finally starting to plant my roots in this great city. The first step I’m taking is to finally get going on that photography education like I’ve been wanting to! I enrolled in a class at the Australian Centre for Photography and am loving it so far!

This week I had to do my first school assignment in over 15 years! I had to shoot in 3 different lighting situations, back light, front light, and side light and bracket for each. My beautiful friend, Renee graciously modeled for me and I have to say I’m quite pleased with the way the shots came out! The assignment called for unedited images (which I did do for the class) but how could I resist having a little play with them for shits n gigs??

Here are a few of my faves (edited) from assignment 1:
